Velma Rose (Littlefield) Clark, 85 passed away peacefully Monday, March 14, 2016 after a brief illness. Born in Jonesville, Michigan she was the daughter of the late George and Martha Littlefield. She had a special bond with her father and loved to mow the yard or roof houses taking on the role of the "son" her dad never had. She met Howard Clark through her sister Mabel Swager (who survives her) and after their marriage on March 30, 1951 she moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana. She worked for a short time at Phelps Dodge until the birth of their first child when her occupation became mom and homemaker. Affectionately called "Granny" by family and friends, Velma is lovingly survived by five children: Terry (Pam) Clark, Charles Clark, Karen (Larry) Warner, Howard "Doc" (Kathy) Clark Jr., Pam Clark and her fur baby Buddy. When all of her children were in school she began to work at Abbett Elementary initially as an aid and then overseeing the library/media center. Although she ruled with a mighty sternness, inevitably when she was out and about, would be approached and fondly remember by one of her "kids" from Abbott. Many of them told her that they now appreciated her guidance from their younger years at Abbett. Over the years Velma was very involved in the Boy Scouts of America and was in the first small group of women to receive their highest award for women adult leaders, the Silver Fawn. Velma had been a Fort Wayne Komets fan since her move to Fort Wayne attending or listening to each and every Komets game. She also had a passion for any animal, daily feeding her birds, squirrels, ducks, and chipmunks. Visiting the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo was another fondness. But her greatest passion above all else has been her grandchildren: Sarah (Brian) Lee, Jeff (Ronda)Clark, Jason (Abby) Warner and Kayla (Joe) Berghoff and her great-grandchildren: Kyle, Konner, and Kennedy Bender, Keegan Clark, Max and Molly Warner, Morgan and William Lee and two that she had hoped to hold in her arms in May. Velma was preceded in death by her husband Howard Clark, Sr., daughter-in-law Linda Clark and sisters Ellen Staley and Georgia Clark. Service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, March 19, 2016 at D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave, with calling one hour prior. Calling also Friday from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Funeral Home. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Memorials may be made to the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo. To sign the online guestbook go to www.domccombandsons.com.
