Adern was the son of Isaiah Tivis and Alvin Lucinda (Derryberry) Mefford, Jr. He married Alta Estes and later married Grace Riley on March 3, 1930. He was retired from the M.K.&T. Railroad Line and a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 22 of Canadian for 64 years. Survivors include a son, Alton Mefford, now living in Salt Lake City, Utah, and a step-son, James Powell of California. Also a sister, Cassie Aldridge of Canadian and a niece, Willie Bell Eldridge of Crowder with whom he lived with until his death. Services were held March 11, 1978 at the First Baptist Church of Canadian. Interment was in the Crowder Cemetery.
