SOUTH BEND, IN. — Agnes V. Monhaut, 88, of South Bend, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, March 12, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Jan. 10, 1928, to the late Andrew and Mary (Horwarth) Kramer in South Bend, and has been a lifelong resident. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John Andrew Monhaut; five sisters, Marie Armstrong, Rose Wisniewski, Betty Horvath, Frances Prusinski, Kathryn Poczik; and four brothers, John, Andrew, Leo, and Joseph Kramer.

Agnes retired in 1993, as an office manager, from the University of Notre Dame, after 23 years of employment.

On Oct. 4, 1947, as Agnes V. Kramer, she married John D. Monhaut in South Bend. He passed away March 28, 2003.

Agnes is survived by her two daughters, Karen (Rick) Bauer of Niles, Mich. and Mary (Kip) Klute of South Bend; six sons, Donald (Nan) Monhaut of Granger, Edward (Debbie) Monhaut of South Bend, Thomas (Roxann) Monhaut of Goshen, Larry (Denise) Monhaut of Hastings, Minn., Kevin Monhaut of South Bend, and Jeff (Jenny) Monhaut of Rolling Prairie; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Agnes was a charter member of Corpus Christi Parish. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Agnes was an extraordinary cook, evident to all who enjoyed her legendary Hoho cake, apple pie and mashed potatoes to name a few. She was also an avid sports enthusiast and loved everything Notre Dame.

Visitation was from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a Parish Rosary was recited at 3 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daryl Rybicki officiating. Burial followed in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN.
