She was a resident of Evergreen Woods in North Branford, CT. Mrs. Gardner was born in Jersey City, NJ. She married Robert E. Gardner, the former Salem County agricultural extension agent in 1943, and they moved to Salem County in 1948 and resided there for 61 years. She was a graduate of Montclair (NJ) State College and earned a masters degree from the University of Delaware. She was a junior high and high school teacher in Salem and was a member of the Salem Friends Meeting. She moved to Evergreen Woods in 2009 and was active in residence committees and bridge groups.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years. She is survived by a sister, Mary Schwartz of San Luis Obispo, CA., daughters, Abigail (Richard Moynihan) of Rowayton, CT., and Judith (Laurence Rutter) of San Luis Obispo, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Gardner's memory may be made to the Salem Friends Meeting, P.O. Box 7, Salem, NJ 08079, or to a favorite charity.
