Rick Thomas Hall, 68, of Richmond and Stanton, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016 in Stanton, Kentucky.
Rick was born on January 24, 1948 in Martin, Kentucky, the son of the late Adrian and Olive Rose Turner Hall. He grew up in Floyd County, and was a graduate of McDowell High School. He received an academic scholarship to Marshall University where he excelled in basketball. After graduation, he began teaching and coaching, first at Russell Independent schools, McDowell High School and The Powell County School System. At Powell County, he taught English, coached both Boys and Girls Basketball and retired as Athletic Director. After retirement he enjoyed spending time, both in Kentucky and his home in Largo, Florida. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife: Stephanie Wells Hall; two daughters: Erin Elizabeth Bortner (David) and Rikki Allison Westerman (Jim) both of Seminole, Florida; two step-daughters: Heather Wells Combs (Shannon) of Richmond and Rebecca Wells of Stanton; one brother: Don Hall (Jeannie) of Hunnington, WV; one sister: Sandra Stevens (Duane) of Visa, CA; a brother-in-law: Donnie Sexton of Paris, KY; five grandchildren: Victoria and Ashlyn Bortner, Lilly Westerman and Braeden and Whitley Combs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister; Karen Hall Sexton.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Kentucky with Rev. Arnold Turner Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Lucy Hall Family Cemetery at McDowell, Kentucky.
Visitation will be from 5-9 PM Friday at The Stanton Christian Church in Stanton, Kentucky and from 5-9 PM Saturday at the Hall Funeral Home in Martin, Kentucky.
Pallbearers will be: Travis Sexton, Evan Hall, Tony Hernandez, Jim Hall, Braeden Combs, Brian Fields and Mike Sheets.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: John & Gail Brewer, James Edward and Kathryn Dennis, Mark & Maria Reed, David and Meagan Davis, Dave & Mary Collins, Tim and Christine Dudley, Danny and Evelyn Neely, Mike and Diane Chandler, Johnny Ray Turner, Donnie Sexton, Shelia Steele, Greg Briscoe, Diane Meadows and his former colleagues of the Powell County School System.
