"Rev. David T. Detwiler, New Enterprise, died at 11 o'clock Saturday evening after an illnes of seven weeks.

He was the youngest of three children of the family of Daniel and Elizabeth (Teeter) Detwiler, and was born on a farm near Martinsburgg, December 11, 1854.

While still a boy, his family moved to Bedford County along Potter Creek, where he grew to manhood. Though reared on a farm, he prepared himself fot the profession of teaching by attending loval summer normal school sessions.

For 18 years he followed his chosen profession. During the summer he was engaged in agriculture, either upon the farm upon which he lived, or assisted his neighbor farmers.

Rev. Detwiler had been a member of the New Enterprise church of the Brthren since 1880 and served as a minister of the congregation since 1883. He was ordained to the eldership in 1897.

For approximately 60 years he was a teacher in the Sunday school class at New Enterprise. He gave up his position as teacher only about two months ago when his health began to fall.

He frequently represented the congregation as a delagate to district confrences and the general conference. He also represented his denomination at the Middle district conference of Pennsylvania, and served one term on the standing committee of the general conference. He served as a member of the district home mission board for two terms, 1915-1920 and 1922-1927. He had also been named to serve as the bishop of the New Enterprise congregation from 1912 until the early thirties.

He had solumnised about 125 narruages and officiated at several hundred funeral services. He was a director of the Everett Mutual Fire Insurance company for 20 years and served several terms as school director and sevretary of the board of supervisors.

Members of the family include these children: Rev. Edgar M. Detwiler, pastor of the Everett Church of the Brethren; Chalmer T., contractor and builder, Altoona, and Eve, wife of Arthur L. Replogle, New Enterprise with whom he made his home. A son, Rev. D. Clarence Detwiler, and a daughter Lottie A., preceded him in death.

Friends will be received at the home until Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock when the body will be removed to the church for services. "
