George "Bud" Anthony Yates, 72, of Five Points, AL passed away Friday, March 11, 2016 in LaGrange, GA.

"Bud", as he was affectionately known, was born November 12, 1943 in LaGrange, GA to the late George McKinley Yates and Mildred E. Tucker Yates. He was a member of Callaway Baptist Church and retired from the City of LaGrange after nineteen years of service. During his tenure, he served as Chief of Police and Assistant Chief of Police. Mr. Yates was a member of the Georgia Peace Officers Association, the Georgia Chief of Police Association and the Federal Bureau of Investigation Association.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Carrol Smith Yates; son, Anthony Shannon (Ginger) Yates; daughter, Erin Ashley Yates; grandsons, Kyle Yates, Jake Yates, Dylan Yates; step grandson, Dustin Cofield; sister, Teresa Eudonis (Thomas) Matheny; sister-in-law, Susan (Tim) Williams; brothers-in-law, James Smith and Randy (Yvonne) Smith; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Gathering of Family and Friends will be Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home. The Funeral service will be held 11:00am Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Callaway Baptist Church with Pastor Brad Thompson and Pastor Charles Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Hillview Cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the city of LaGrange Police Department or Callaway Baptist Church in memory of George "Bud" Anthony Yates.
