Grew up at family home at Musicfield near Milltown, County Galway.

Immigrated to the United States on the S.S. Cymric which departed Queenstown, Ireland on 25 April 1903 and arrived in New York on 4 May 1903. The ship's passenger manifest stated his final destination was St. Louis where his sister Mary lived at 3207 Easton Avenue, the home of his aunt, Bridget Moody Reilly and her husband, Andrew J. Reilly.

Initially settled in St. Louis, Missouri.

Ex-Fire Captain's Funeral Monday

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Rose Church for Michael J. Hernan, 93, an Omaha fireman for 37 years, who died Thursday in a local hospital after a brief illness.

Hernan, of 3348 South Seventeenth Street, retired as a fire captain in 1944. Relatives believe he was the oldest living Omaha fireman at the time of his death.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Phalen, Omaha; a brother, John, of St. Louis; four sisters; seven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
