Betty was a Pickford resident most of her life until she became the first resident of McKinley Manor in Sault Ste. Marie in 2010. After high school graduation, Betty lived in Ida, Michigan for a time while she worked as a welder on tanks during World War II. She returned to Pickford and married Howard Dean Anderson on June 26, 1946 at the Pickford United Methodist Church. They made their home on M-48 in Pickford and raised three daughters. Betty was the bookkeeper for Howard Anderson Electric from the early 1950’s until Howard retired in the mid 1980’s.
Betty enjoyed playing dominos, bingo, and Farkel. Most of all she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Betty was survived by her daughters, Donna Wiggins, DiAnn (David) Firack, and Debra (Richard) Huyck, all of Pickford; grandchildren, Victoria (Kent) Weiderman, Joel (Brenda) Wiggins, Jason (DeeDee) Firack, Joshua Firack, Ben (Amanda Buhro) Huyck, and Jessica (Charlie) Bjunes; and great grandchildren, Dale and Alex Wiggins, Alec, Ian, Teryn, and Elizabeth Firack, Samantha, Isabelle, and Makenna Huyck, and Dylan and Abbey Bjunes. She was also survived by sisters, Hattie Pitko and Phyllis (Conrad) Schmitigal, both of Sault Ste. Marie; and sisters-in-law, Norma Leach of Sterling Heights, Michigan, Marcia Leach of Cedarville, Michigan, and Jean (Gordon) Kacher of Racine, Wisconsin.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Howard in 2009; brothers, James Leach, Donald “Terry” Leach, Robert “Bob” Leach and Gerald Leach; and sister, Janise Leach.
