Born on Sept. 3, 1935 in Columbiana, he was the son of Matthew and Gertrude Powers.
He worked for 29 years at N.R.M. and then for 5 years at Portage Transformer of Youngstown, Ohio, as an electrician. He was a member of First Christian Church of Columbiana.
Survivors include: his wife, the former Carol Brommer Powers, whom he married May 25, 1986; his mother Gertrude Powers of Columbiana; a daughter, Colleen Thornton and her husband Charles of Paris, Ky.; two sons, Matthew Dennis Powers of Juneau, Alaska, and Lance Powers and his wife Susan of Wooster; a step-daughter, Brenda Lance and her husband Rick of Ellwood City, Pa.; a brother, Milton (Mickey) Powers and his wife Ruth of Columbiana; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Bonnie and his father Matthew Powers.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana with Mr. Clarence Mansfield officiating. Burial will be in Columbiana Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home on Saturday.
