John C. Valasek, 84, of Natrona Heights, Harrison, died Monday, May 15, 2006, in Alle-Kiski Medical Center, Natrona Heights. He was born Oct. 30, 1921, in West Natrona to the late Martin and Anna Svitek Valasek and was a lifelong West Natrona resident. Mr. Valasek graduated from St. Joseph High School, served in the Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946 and retired from the masonry department of the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. in 1982 after 42 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish; First Catholic Slovak Union Branch 280, of which he was treasurer for 50 years, and American Legion Post 48, all Natrona. Mr. Valasek loved to read and do crossword puzzles and enjoyed dancing, bowling and golfing. Husband of 57 years of Dorothy Polaski Valasek. Father of Jerry (Alyce) Valasek, of Austin, Texas; Paul (Janet) Valasek, of Brackenridge; Audrey Valasek, of Tarentum; Mary Cay (John) Tierney, of Leechburg; Jane and JoAnne Valasek, of New Kensington, and Carol Valasek, of Latrobe. Grandfather of Derek, Jared and Michael Tierney and Eric and Jonathan Valasek. Great-grandfather of Brodi Lynne Tierney. Also predeceased by an infant brother. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the PAUL R. AJAK FUNERAL HOME INC., 2 Pine St., Natrona. Parting prayer will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home, followed by Christian Funeral Mass at 10 in St. Mathias Catholic Church, Pond Street, Natrona, with his pastor, the Rev. Richard J. Tusky, as celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights.
