Elaine O. Potter passed away quietly in the comfort of her home with her family by her side Thursday, March 10, 2016.
Elaine was born in Long Beach, California to the late Walter Frank and Marion (Novak) Oliver. Her father served in the U.S. Navy as a bugler and after his re-entry into civilian life they moved to Crown Point, Indiana. Eventually, they moved back to Texas where her father worked as an architect and was part of residential developments in North Richland Hills and east Fort Worth.
While in Fort Worth, Elaine graduated from Paschal High School in 1951 and continued her education at St. Joseph's School of Nursing. She graduated in 1954 and had a long and illustrious career working as a Registered Nurse in almost every facet of the medical profession from emergency room and trauma care to surgical nursing. Elaine spent several years as a school nurse and eventually came to teach nursing at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. After receiving her master's degree, she became a pioneer in counseling for drug and alcohol abuse in Oklahoma.
In 1955, a young ambulance driver, Donald Caz Armes caught her eye. They soon married and from that union two children were born - Don Lee and Laura Elaine. Since that time, life carried Elaine to live in Oklahoma, New York and the empire state of the south, Georgia.
In her later years, Elaine found herself back in Texas and reunited with her high school sweetheart, Chuck Potter. They married in November 2003 and currently resided in Joshua. They spent just over 12 happy years together and enjoyed their newly blended family, during which time they cared for Elaine's mother into her 93rd year. Her grandchildren and great grandchild, “Kar Kar” brought her great joy as she watched them grow. It would be remiss without saying, while living in Georgia, Elaine took in as her own child a German exchange student, Tobias Quosigk or “Toby” as she called him. He brought her great company and happiness and now raises a family with his wife there.
Elaine will be laid to rest at Shooks Chapel cemetery in Sulphur Springs, Texas near her father and beloved aunt and uncle, Junius and Vera Clifton.
Survivors: Husband, Charles A. "Chuck" Potter; son, Don Armes and wife, Dede; daughter, Laura Bills and husband, Mike; stepchildren, Cheryl Weatherford and husband, Tommy, Karen Utecht and husband, Larry, Mark Potter and wife, Ann, and Daniel Potter; grandsons, Travis Bills, Joshua Bills, and Casey Bills and his wife, Kendra; granddaughters, Aldyn Bills, Katy Armes, and Kelsey Armes Carden and her husband, Brett; and great-granddaughter, Karsyn Bills.
