William A. "Art" Beard, 87, of Springfield, formerly of Tallula, died Wednesday at Lewis Memorial Christian Center.

He was born Jan. 6, 1908, in Tallula, the son of Edward and Effie May Dickens Beard.

He married Nada C. Robertson in 1927; she died in 1994. Mr. Beard was a former employee of Pillsbury Mills, retiring in 1972 with 41 years of service.

He was a member of Bunn Park Christian Church and was an active bowler in the Pillsbury Mills and senior citizens leagues.

Survivors: two daughters, Mary Cook of Springfield and Dolories A. Cook of Pacific Grove, Calif.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise B. Warmoth of Springfield; two brothers, Floyd S. Beard of Springfield and Donald T. Beard of Danville; and several nieces and nephews.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Ellinger-Kunz and Davis Funeral Home, the Rev. Keith Masten officiating.

Burial: Roselawn Memorial Park.
