Edith Lucille Thompson, age 96, of Alto, Georgia, died on Sunday, June 28th, 2020, at
The Oaks, Scenic View, in Baldwin, Georgia.
Mrs. Thompson was born on June 7th, 1924 in Cornelia, GA, to the late Bolin G. and Lettie
Belle Caudell Morris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving
husband of 72 years, Estee Thompson; brothers, Herman V. Morris, Eugene Morris,
Wilmer W. Morris; sister, Ida Mae Peterman, and son-in-law, Clarence E. Sullivan. Mrs.
Thompson was a member of Alto Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult
Sunday School Class and the Women’s Missionary Union. She worked a few years as a
seamstress at the Carwood Manufacturing Company. She then spent all her time and skills
being a full-time homemaker, a loving wife, and a devoted mother. Mrs. Thompson
enjoyed working outdoors in all its beauty. She especially loved her flowers, and she had a
green thumb! Her family refers to her as one of Northeast Georgia’s finest cooks when it
came to homemade country cooking and baking. She was an avid canner and enjoyed
harvesting and preserving the fruits of her and her husband’s labor. She loved her God and
her family. She was gifted with a ready smile and a wonderful laugh, and oh, how she
adored her grandchildren who lovingly called her “Granny”. She was the BEST!
Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl T. Sullivan, of McCalla, AL; son and daughter-in-law,
Glenn and Rose Thompson, of Winder; grandchildren, Tommy Brian Thompson of
Winder, Christy Thompson Nerroth and her husband Michael C. Nerroth, Jr., of Winder;
great-grandchildren, Michael C. Nerroth III, and Joshua B. Nerroth of Winder; sister-in-
law, Louise Wade Thompson of Alto; along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 P.M., at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel,
following visitation on Tuesday, June 30th, 2020, with Rev. Chris York, Rev. Billy Burrell,
and Rev. Raymond Payne officiating. Interment will follow in the Level Grove Cemetery. 1/2
