Phillip J Norris Jr. (53) passed away peacefully and comfortably at St Luke’s Meridian the morning of 12/29/15. He was born on 12/3/62 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Phillip Joel Norris Sr. and Ada Ann Nelson. He was the third of 4 children (Deb Lynn, Tammie Ann, and Kimberley Kay) and is their only son. His family moved to Boise, ID in 1970 where he stayed for the remainder of his life.
He was a kind-hearted child, happy to help and sing songs to his mother, and would race outside at the sound of a siren to watch any passing police car, ambulance, or fire truck. He is a caregiver at heart and this trait is reflected in his many decade career in healthcare, beginning in 1977 when he began a job as a dispatcher for a private ambulance company at age 14. In 1984, he joined Ada County Paramedics where he served for just over 20 years as an EMT, A-EMT, Paramedic, and Paramedic Supervisor.
Phil graduated in 2001 from the University of Washington’s Physician Assistant program and, shortly after, continued his career in healthcare as a Physician Assistant, specializing in perioperative hospitalist care until 2012. His last years were spent at Valor Health in Emmett providing urgent care. He has saved and helped save thousands of lives and so many families are grateful to him for his service.
His children were the light of his life and he always made sure they knew how important they were to him and how proud he was of them. Shortly before his passing, his birthday party included his wife and all of his children and their significant others. He couldn't have been happier than when he had the rare opportunity to see all of his closest family together and enjoying each other's company for those wonderful hours.
He is survived by, in his words, “the best thing that ever happened to me,” Renee Watts Norris, and his children Phillip J Norris III, Emily J Norris (Hawkins), and David J Norris. His family and friends will miss him dearly for the rest of their lives and he will never be forgotten.
A memorial service is to be held on Friday, January 22nd, 2015 at the College Church of the Nazarene in Nampa, ID at 4:00pm with arrangements under the direction of Bella Vida Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to his wife for medical costs are graciously being accepted at gofundme or donate to National Multiple Sclerosis Society in his name.
