Richard Raymond Garza was born to Eulalio and Susie Garza on March 26, 1935, in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Central Catholic High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from U.T. Austin. He pursued a variety of careers, including positions at the California Dept. of Highways, Cal State L.A., and the Alamo Community College District. Additionally, he owned and managed Crestwood Realty. In retirement, he taught computer classes to seniors at the Commander's House, and formed the Spanish Cultural and Historical Society that docented at the Spanish Governor's Palace and presented ferias in San Antonio to showcase Spanish Classical Dance and celebrate the 1718 founding of the Villa de Bexar.
He is preceded by his parents and by his brother, Robert Garza. He is survived by his sister, Mary Alice Garza; wife, Jill Garza; daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Shane Pierce; son, Brian Garza; daughters Ursula Woodhull and Marisa Alexander; and sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Nancy Garza, Rey and Yevette Garza, and Rick and Olga Garza; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11a.m. at Sunset North Funeral Home.
