Sparta Man, 62 Takes His Own Life
Victor A. Johnson, 62, of 11545 Lymburger rd., Sparta R2, was found dead in a field in the rear of his home Monday. Dr. G. A. Barofsky, medical examiner, said Mr. Johnson took his own life with a shotgun blast in the chest. He had been despondent because of ill health, Dr. Barofsky said.

The body was discovered by Mr. Johnson's wife, Lareta, Troopers Edward Wendry and William Chandler of the Rockford state police post said. Time of death was estimated at 4 p.m.

Mr. Johnson, a Sparta resident all his life, is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Merlin Kraft of Sparta; three brothers, Fred and John of sparta and Oscar of New Orleans, La., and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hessel mortuary, Sparta with burial in Greenwood cemetery, Sparta.

Sparta Man, 62 Takes His Own Life
