Gordon Drum, 77, of Deer Creek, died Saturday, October 15, 2011. Funeral services were held October 20 at United Methodist Church in Deer Creek.
Gordon Harold Drum was born May 3, 1934 in a rural farm house in Carlos Township in Douglas County, the son of Harold and Hazel (Rising) Drum. gordon attended school in Carlos and Alexandria.
Gordon's family moved to a farm near Garfield when Gordon was 10 years old where he attended country school at District 99. Gordon quit school at the age of 16 to work on the farm and also work for McGarry Brothers construction. At this job he helped put the replica of the Kensington Runestone at the east entrance into Alexandria on High way 27. In 1955, Gordon went to work laying pipeline traveling through many states. In 1958, he went to work for the Great Northern Railroad laying and fixing track, living in a boxcar. The crew was called the Gandy Gang. He came back to the farm for a while and in early 1965, he went to work in Wadena at Hide & Fur.
Gordon married Phyllis Anderson November 10, 1956. In October of 1965, Gordon moved his family to rural Deer Creek. He loved farming, making things in his woodshop with the grandchildren working beside him. He loved visits with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed going to auction sales, flea markets, visiting friends and neighbors and watching Western movies on TV.
Gordon entered into his heavenly home, surrounded by his family on October 15, 2011 at the age of 77 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years; son Robby (Gail) Drum of Deer Creek; two daughters, Laura (Glen) Smith of Sartell, and Teri (Bob) Uhde of Deer Creek; nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Eddy, parents and two sisters. Arrangements with Anderson Funeral Home.
