George Lloyd Andrews was a native of Connecticut and the son of Huldah Coe and Major Lloyd Andrews. He was a graduate of Yale College and a pioneer educator in Ohio and Indiana. After moving to Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio he met his wife Margaret while teaching in Dayton, Ohio.

Margaret A. Rodebaugh, was the daughter of Adam Rodebaugh and Anna Catherine Pitsenbarger. After their marriage on August 8th, 1841 they moved to Delaware County, Indiana and lived near Muncie, Indiana where George was in charge of the public schools. They had seven known children together, two daughters and five sons.

In 1846 his family was living in Henry County, and were still there in the 1850-US Census for Prairie Township, Henry County, Indiana, taken on the 18th day of September 1950. George L. Andrews is listed as a farmer age 45, his wife Margaret age 36, and their five children.

George retired from teaching because of declining health in 1851 and moved to his farm in Madison Township in Jay County, Indiana. George died May 28, 1854, from an injury received several months earlier in a mill accident.

On August 20, 1856 William J. Stowe guardian for George Andrews' children lists the names of all the children and sells 80 acres of land in their name that was subject to the life estate of Margaret A. Andrews. Guardianship dated February 8th, 1856.

George's tombstone lists his age at time of death as 49 years and 9 months that would have his birth being August 28th, 1804. However, the 1649-1906 Connecticut Birth and Christening Records state he was born on March 19th, 1805 in Winchester Township, Litchfield County, Connecticut.
