Donald Harold Sweet, 92, of Hillsboro died at 11:16 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2016, at Montgomery Nursing and Rehab Center in Taylor Springs.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 11, at the funeral home with the Rev. Harry Meyer, pastor of the First Christian Church in Hillsboro, officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro.

Mr. Sweet was born in Gilman on Nov. 23, 1923, the son of the late Raymond O. and Beulah (Weger) Sweet. He married Donna Brashears on Sept. 3, 1950, in Palestine, and she survives in Hillsboro.

He lived in Palestine and Hillsboro during his lifetime and graduated from Palestine High School in 1941. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a retired operator at the Coffeen Power Station.

Mr. Sweet was a member of the First Christian Church in Hillsboro, Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge in Hillsboro and IUOE Local #148. He loved to travel, was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and he enjoyed golfing, fishing and woodworking. He was an avid reader.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Doug (wife Teri) Sweet, Dan (wife Michelle) Sweet and Donna "Denise" Corazza, all of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren, Liz Sweet, Natalie (husband Keith) Bergman, Nathan Sweet, Meghan Bertolino, Ben (wife Sarah) Sweet, Zach (wife Nancy) Sweet, Ethan Sweet, Hannah Sweet and Kevin Lee Corazza II; and seven great-grandchildren, Kennedy Bergman, Jude, Dahlia, Atticus, Sloan and Tallulah Bertolino, Jacob and Kody Corazza and Jensen Sweet.

Besides his parents, Mr. Sweet was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Kevin Corazza; granddaughter, Katie O'Hara Sweet; and sister, Theda Kent.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Hillsboro.
