Sechrist, Ronald B. "Duke"

age 82, of Elmira, NY, went to be with his heavenly father on Friday, March 11th, 2011, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Duke was born on March 15th, 1928 in Elmira, son of the late Ronald E. and Louise (Dewey) Sechrist. Duke served our country honorably in the US Navy during WWII and retired from WENY Radio in Elmira, after 45 years in sales. Most recently he was in sales for 95 the Met & Cool 96. He was a lifetime member of the Sampson Navy Veterans, American Legion Post #154 and a long time member of the Southside Baptist Church. Duke was very much known for his coaching and umpiring abilities. He coached Small Fry Football for 30 years and Small Fry Baseball for 5 years. He officiated football, basketball, baseball and softball in Elmira for over 25 years. Duke was also the first President of the Southside High School Booster Club.
Duke was predeceased by his daughter, Jyvette; sister, Carol June Bodine. Family and friends are invited to call Tuesday, March 15th, 2011 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Calvery Chapel of Twin Tiers Church, formerly the Southside Baptist Church at 601 Pennsylvania Ave. Memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. with Rev. David Daniels officiating. Donations in memory of Duke can be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted with the James D. Barrett Funeral Home.
