Services will be held at: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at the Bethany United Church of Christ in rural Baxter. Visitation times are: Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church. Alvin was born on December 10, 1910 in Newton, Iowa, the son of August and Marie (Rembert) Tinnermeier. He grew up in rural Baxter and attended country school. On March 4, 1936 he was united in marriage to Geneva Engle in Omaha, NE. The couple made their home on a farm southeast where they farmed until Alvin's retirement in the late 1950's. After retiring, Alvin assisted at the Boyd - Nikkel Funeral Home & Furniture Store in Baxter for many years. He also worked at various carpentry jobs throughout Jasper County. Geneva died on December 12, 1986; and, Alvin moved to the Baxter Healthcare Center in December 2004. Survivors include his sister Sylvia Hines of Des Moines and a sister-in-law, Emma Rumbaugh of Portland, Oregon. Several nieces and nephews, as well as other more distant relatives also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Geneva; an infant son; two sisters: Irma Martinsdale and Olga Hotchkiss.
