Rubena Annie Lou Welch, Bartlett, TN
December 15, 1924 – March 4, 2016

“Don’t do something I wouldn’t do, but if you do, name it after me.” This is advice Rubena’s family often heard from her.

She had a fiery spirit and was a Godly woman. She was never afraid to speak her mind and did not let anything (including breast cancer, immobility or a bad attitude) get in the way of her passion (singing). She sang almost every day, choosing “This World is Not My Home” if she heard us arguing. She lived life with a sense of humor and insisted her family and strangers alike call her “Ms. Sexy Thang” after hearing her granddaughter, Donna, call her that once and took a liking to it. She often quoted scriptures and asked her family to pray instinctively knowing we were always up to no good.

She loved to garden, was a member of Victory Singers of LaBelle Haven Baptist Church and is known for saying “love is the key” all her life.

She leaves behind her husband, Wilbur of 68 years; daughter Janet Bullock (husband Don); daughter Wanda Ruark; grandson Wesley Bullock (wife Jamie, kids: Brent and Bailey); grandson, Adam Bullock; granddaughter Christina Meek (husband Andy); grandson Jay Ruark; granddaughter Donna Bullock; grandchildren, Nick, Shane and Regina Welch. She is survived by one sister, Margie Jackson and several nieces and nephews. She is reunited with her son Mark Welch, 4 sisters and parents Idell and Pamelia Bishop.

She is finally at peace after fighting to the very end of heart failure. We love and miss you. Try not to give God too hard of a time.

Visitation is on Monday, March 7th from 5-7 pm at Forrest Hill Funeral Home: 2440 Whitten Road. The funeral service and burial will take place at Forrest Hill Funeral home on Tuesday, March 8th at 2 pm. Rubena loved flowers and they are encouraged. She loved colorful spring flowers.
