WALNUT COVE, NC ~ Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Conaway Morton Sands, 80, died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

She was born in Stokes County to Sam Sherman and Claudia Lee Bullins Conaway.

She attended Open Door Baptist Church and retired from Sara Lee Corporation in 1991 with 21 years of service.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Hilory Sanford Morton; her second husband, Early James Sands; and two sisters: Virginia Conaway and Pauline Yates.

Surviving are two daughters: Wanda Stroud and Debbie (Al) Tuttle; two grandchildren: Tori (Brian) Phipps and Amanda Tuttle; two great-grandchildren: Briana and Caroline Phipps; sister, Willie Mae Williams; and brother, Billie Ray Conaway.

A private graveside service was held Sunday, February 22, 2009.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Walnut Cove Cemetery Fund, c/o Ms. Anne Towne, 1115 Brookridge Drive, Walnut Cove, NC 27052.

The family would like to thank the staff of Rose Tara for the care given to Mrs. Sands during her stay with them.
