Bobby J. "Bob" McDowell passed on to Eternal Life, May 4, 2012 at the age of 85.
He was born June 21, 1926 in rural Carmen, Oklahoma the son of Alta M. and Max F. McDowell.
His early childhood years were spent in Carmen. In 1938 the family moved to rural Craig, County near the Welch Community where he attended Grand View grade school and later Welch High School. He loved sports, as a teenager he played football, basketball and baseball.
Upon graduating from High School, he volunteered enlistment into the United Stated Navy for two years service, from 1944 to 1946. His duty was on the U.S.S. Roi Aircraft Carrier in the Asia Pacific Area.
He was employed by the B.F. Goodrich Plant in Miami retiring after 35 years of service.
Bob was a member of the Bethany Christian Church for 55 years, serving as an Elder, Moderator of the Congregation, Finance Chairman of the new building project and a Teacher of Josey Seekers of Adult Sunday School Class for 35 years. He was also a lifelong rancher and farmer.
He enjoyed his activity in the local Ottawa County camp of Gideon's International and served as Post Camp President and Scripture Chair for a member of years.
Bob married the former Betty Jean Newman. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in March of this year.
They have three children, a daughter, Linda Folsom of Grove, Oklahoma, two sons, Douglas N. McDowell of Miami, Oklahoma and Mark McDowell, of Afton, Oklahoma, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Bethany Christian Church, 2127 N. Main, Miami, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami. Online condolences may be made at www.paulthomasfuneralhomes.com.
