Daniel Bride, Sr. 88, of 21131 Copperhead Rd. died at 8:08 a.m. February 25, 2015 at Hospice House.

Daniel was born to Leslie and Edna Clayton Bride in Jefferson Co., Iowa on September 9, 1926. He married Kathryn Welch on December 15, 1949. She preceded him in death on November 23, 2006.

He lived most of his life in Wapello County, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He was employed at the Iowa Illinois Gas & Electric Co. in 1948, retiring at the age of 62. He also farmed most of his life.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church since 1949.

Surviving are two daughters, Theresa Ann Melling of Milo, IA and Kathleen Reinier of Ottumwa; a son, Daniel Bride, Jr. of Moravia; 12 grandchildren, David Melling Jr., Bonny Anderson, Tracey Stanbro, Travis Melling, Teri Carter, Steve Reinier, Sally Hecathorn, Sue Talbott, Kelli Hemm, Leslie Bride, Seth Sparks and Glenise Sparks; 24 great grandchildren; two brothers, Doyle Bride and Dorven “Arky” Bride both of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Thompson and Doris Rupe and five brothers, Dale, Donald, Darrell, Doye and Norman.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Fr. Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Burial will be in Dunnville Cemetery with military services by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday with the family present from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to Dunnville Baptist Church or O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
