James "Jimmie" Edward DeHart, Sr., 82, of Henry Road, Henry, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016. He was born on September 1, 1933 in Franklin County, to the late Fannie Stone DeHart and John Clenard DeHart, Sr In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, James Edward "Eddie" DeHart Jr., brothers, John C. DeHart Jr. and Henry D. DeHart. Mr. DeHart was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and served in the United States Army and worked at Blue Ridge Talc in Henry, for over forty three years. He also worked as a mechanic, enjoyed antique automobile restoration, attending car shows, racing, fishing and gardening. He also had a love for music, working puzzles and the outdoors. He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Haynes DeHart of the home; daughter, Sharon DeHart Thurman and her husband, Larry Thurman; grandchildren, Adam Thurman and Brie Thurman all of Martinsville; sister, Raynelle D. Peters of Henry. He is also survived by many nieces; and nephews; and his longtime companion, Bentley the dog. The Funeral Service will be held at Mill Creek Baptist Church in Henry, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2016 with Dr. Brian Goard officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mill Creek Baptist Church and other times at the home. Burial will follow the service at Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Henry Fire Department, Attn: Treasurer, 5241 Henry Road, Henry, VA 24102 or Ferrum Rescue Squad, VA-40, Ferrum, VA 24088 or Fork Mountain Volunteer Rescue Squad, C/O Nancy Holcomb, Bassett, VA 24055.Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory Martinsville, is serving the DeHart family.
