CLARA ETTA SHEFFER WILBER was born in New York and was a teacher in South Dakota and Michigan. She was also a published poet. She married Claude Jerome Wilber in 1910 in Flint, Michigan. Claude, working his way up, became an executive for Buick Motor Co. and received a brand-new "change-out" Buick each year.

Clara was a descendant of more than nine ancestors who fought in the American Revolutionary War as well as being a descendant of a senior American Col. "Tory" who fought for the British. He lost his property and later removed to Canada where he had a great number of descendants. Many stayed in Canada and some migrated back to the U.S.
