HARSHBERGER – Betty Jane “Jane,” a vivacious, young-at-heart woman of 92, Summerhill, passed away March 5, 2016, at Duke Raleigh Hospital. Born March 10, 1923, in South Fork, daughter of William H. Sr. and Martha (McElwee) Mapstone. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Calvin Jay Harshberger; and brother, William H. Mapstone Jr. Survived by her loving children: her oldest child, Stuart, his wife, Susan, Johnstown; her oldest daughter, Sandra Polanco, Raleigh, N.C.; her second daughter, Jayne Ann, wife of Ivon James, Wilmington, N.C.; and her youngest daughter, Tina Comingore, Largo, Fla.; her beloved grandchildren, Missy Ramirez, married to Shawn Ramirez, and their daughter, Reese, Westmont; Joshua Harshberger, his wife, Mand and their son, Gavin, Harrisburg; Jason Harshberger, his wife, Bryna, New Cumberland; Amber Neill, married to Tatum Neill, New Orleans, La.; Nick Polanco, Raleigh, N.C.; Bradley James, Largo, Fla.; and Katie James, Wilmington, N.C.; and sister-in-law, Nancy Mapstone, Geistown; as well as her niece, Sherry Sinisi, Geistown. Jane was a graduate of South Fork High School, Class of 1943. Employed by Forest Hills School District as a teacher’s aide for 31 years, she had a love of learning and children alike. In her twilight years, she worked for the County Mart in Summerhill in order to stay active in the community. She enjoyed traveling, most often to the beach. Other favorite destinations have been the Bahamas, Canada, Mexico and most recently Costa Rica for her beloved granddaughter’s, Amber Neill, wedding. When she wasn’t jet-setting, she enjoyed the comforts of home, with a good meal cooking on the stove, a book in her hand or a new crochet project in her lap. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016, and from noon until time of the Celebration of Life service at 1 p.m. Thursday at Charles O.
