Barbara was the daughter of Thomas Procter Wilson Paterson and Mary Campbell of Newcastle on Tyne, England.
The family emigrated to New Zealand in 1859 on the Barque Lady Alice. Thomas Paterson is recorded as a resident on the 1870-71 Marlborough Electoral Roll and named as Thomas Patterson, resident at Mahakipawa.
Barbara married at Mahakipawa to Anders Jonson of Sweden. They settled at Cullensville, Mahakipawa and had 10 children during their marriage.
Barbara was widowed in 1909 and later moved north to Carterton in the Wairarapa district.
Barbara died in 1930 aged 76 and is buried at Clareville Cemetery, Carterton. PLOT 60, BLOCK NEW SUR A.
