Shirley J. Dugan, 84, of Defiance, passed away in her sleep surrounded by family on Sunday, March 6, 2016, at CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center in Defiance.

Shirley was born in Columbus, Ohio, to the late John V. and Esther M. (Jeffries) Bittinger on November 7, 1931. On September 8, 1951, she married the love of her life, Charles J. "Charlie" Dugan, who preceded her in death.

Also preceding her in death was her sister, Margaret Bittinger.

Shirley is survived by two brothers,Richard (Joanne) Bittinger of Arizona and Michael (Deb) Bittinger of Defiance. Also surviving Shirley are her five children, Teresa Booher of Defiance, Cheri Chapman of Georgia, Patrick (Jonanne) Dugan of Defiance, Lori Black of Defiance and Traci (Terry) VanValkenberg of Georgia. Shirley was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Shirley was an avid bowler of 60 years. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church, the Moose Lodge and AMVETS of Defiance. She enjoyed playing cards and yoga.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016, at the funeral home, with Father Eric Mueller officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Memory Gardens.
