REV. WALLACE H. HEFLIN
HE WAS A PROPHET TO THE NATIONS.
Brother Heflin was born-again on July 5, 1962, and began immediately serving the Lord with zeal. He first travelled with his father, doing tent meetings throughout Virginia and North Carolina, pastoring the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in Callao, Virginia. Then, he began traveling the nations of the world, training men and women who today move in similar prophetic anointing throughout the earth. Although he ministered in more than 150 nations, he had a special burden for Israel, China and Russia and ministered with teams in those countries at least once a year. He was a dynamic evangelist with an outstanding healing and miracle ministry. Many knew him simply as "The Miracle Man."
Upon his father's death, in 1972, he became co-pastor (with his mother) of the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in Richmond, Virginia, co-director of the Calvary Pentecostal Campground in Ashland, and the overseer of existing satellite churches. Under his leadership and guidance, the ministry his parents established in 1937 has greatly multiplied in size and outreach and has touched every nation of the world.
Brother Heflin's life and ministry has reached hundreds of thousands of people around the world. He was an apostle and father in the faith who encouraged hundreds of men and women to enter the ministry and to step out into a deeper life of faith. He was uniquely generous, and encouraged many others to give their way out of poverty. He had a beautiful prophetic gift and was tireless in ministry, giving all his strength to the Lord and to the people--until the end. He leaves behind a prophetic example in this unique time in which we live. He has already laid his hat at Jesus' feet and even now in the war room of Heaven, looking over the plans for Triumphal Reentry and his rightful place as general in God's Army.
OBITUARY:
WALLACE HEFLIN DIES
BY CARRIE JOHNSON,
TIMES-DISPATCH STAFF WRITER
The Rev. Wallace Harrison Heflin Jr., pastor of Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle and director of the Calvary Pentecostal Camp in Ashland, die Friday of a heart attack. He was 64.
Mr Heflin was also a member of the Heflin family ministry.
Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle, 2701 Hull St., was founded by his parents in 1937. In 1955 they founded the camp, home to one of the longest running camp meetings in the country. It lasts from the final week in June until Labor Day.
After the death of his father in 1972, Mr. Heflin took over the family's ministry. He was the major force behind expanding the campground to its current assortment of 30 buildings that can accommodate 550 people overnight and seat 2,000 in an outdoor, covered amphitheater.
Mr. Heflin's pentecostal style could be seen on Calvary's television show, carried on area Christian cable channels. The show sometimes included services from the South Richmond church or from such special events as a winter camp meeting.
He was also the owner of a Christian radio station, WPES Voice of Ashland.
In 1980, Mr. Heflin opened End Times Foods Inc., a store specializing in dehydrated foods. His family became adept at food storage in the early 1970s as a way of providing for those who participated in revivals at the Calvary Pentecostal Campground.
The store was founded in the belief that people should store foods to prepare for potential power outages and food shortages.
"When everyone starts to buy, it's too late," Mr Heflin said a 1992 interview. "We encourage people {to plan} now. It's not hoarding. It's being prepared."
Mr. Heflin is survived by his mother, the Rev. Edith W. Heflin of Ashland; his sister, the Rev. Ruth W. Heflin of Jerusalem, Israel; and his son, Michael W. Heflin of Richmond.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Landmark Theater, 6 Laurel Set.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Pentecostal Building Fund.
