Earle David Winderman was born in the Bronx, both parents in the medical field.
He graduated from the Bronx High School of Science, served during World War II, earned a BA in comparative literature and a PhD. He taught journalism in Germany and France, where two of his four sons were born, then in California for several years. He moved back east and worked as account executive for the John Price Jones Company in fundraising. Earle then had a long and productive career as vice president for development at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania and retired to Arizona and Mexico in 1984.
He married three times and has four sons.
