Paul was born in St. Die', France on June 17, 1919 and came to the United States in 1921. His parents, Alphonse and Marguerite Poirel Mathis, were farmers in Blairsburg and Paul attended school there. He married Velma R. Segar in 1940. They did some farming and then Paul and Velma developed an auto repair business in Webster City. After his spiritual conversion, Paul attended Rio Grande Bible Institute in Texas and was ordained a Baptist minister in 1959. He pastored churches in South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa and Texas. He and his wife retired to Webster City, IA and Wichita, KS.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Pauline (Ralph) Bubeck of Wichita, KS; son, Ronald (Jean) Mathis of Ankeny, IA and Mission, TX; five grandchildren, Craig (Kathleen) Bubeck, Brian (Phyllis) Bubeck, Sheryl (Keith) Lathrom, Jodell Anderson, Kendra (John) Jurgenson; two step-grandchildren, Kimberly (Larry) Stombaugh and Thomas Smith; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Marcelle G. (Gilbert Sr.) Butler of Sheldon, IA; and nephew, Gilbert Jr. ( Donna) Butler of Sheldon, IA.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Velma and his grandson, Ryan Joel Mathis.
