"O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colors, and lay thy foundations with sapphires." Isaiah 54:11

Brother Edward (E.D.) Daniel Davis, Sr. was born Sanford, FL, on April 1, 1888, to the late Mr. E. O. Davis and Ida Taylor Davis of Georgia.

Edward Daniel Davis, Sr., SC1C, U.S. Naval Reserve Force, Class 4 (1303727), entered the United States Navy on April 12, 1918, and served onboard various Naval Ships as a Ship's Cook, First Class. He also served ashore at various Naval Stations within the Seventh Naval District, Key West, FL. Edward was cited for honorable active service and earned his War Service Certificate (No. 113751) upon his Honorable Discharge from United States Navy on September 30, 1921.

He was joined in Holy Matrimony with Miss Louise Jones on May 29, 1920, at the St. James A.M.E. Church in Titusville, FL. From this union three sons were born, Alphonso Maxwell Davis, Edward Daniels Davis, Jr., and Charles Godfrey Davis all of Titusville, FL.

Edward (E.D.) lived his early life in Sanford, FL. He also resided in the Jacksonville, FL, for a period of time prior to joining in the U.S. Navy. After he settled in Titusville, FL, he started one of the few "black-owned businesses" in Titusville. Edward established the E.D. Davis & Co. Staple and Fancy Groceries Store in 1926, where he sold and supplied shrimp, oysters, country produce and other goods to the surrounding area.

Edward (E.D.) was active in his church and community. He was especially supportive of the Titusville Grammar School.

Whereas, God in His all wise Providence hath seen fit to take from our midst, by death, Brother Edward Daniel Davis, Sr., on March 19, 1927. Whereas, Mr. Davis has given us his faithful and untiring service in promoting the general interests of our school and community.

Whereas, we feel that our loss and heaven's gain, be it, Resolved: that we, the faculty of Titusville Grammar School, bow in humble submission to the will of Him who doeth all things well.

And be it further, Resolved: that we extend to the bereaved family our deepest heartfelt sympathy, commending them to Him who hath said, Tho tossed with tempest and comforted not, I will lay thy stones among fair colors.

And be it further, Resolved: that a copy of these resolutions be given the bereaved family and a copy be sent to the Jacksonville Journal for publications.

Edward (E.D.) is survived by his devoted wife, Louise Jones Davis of Titusville, FL; three sons, and a host of loving relatives and sorrowing friends.
