Cheryl Lynn Chrisman Carpenter

1947-2014

As a teacher for 25 years at Kermit McKenzie Middle School in Guadalupe, Cherie made a lasting contribution. She and her art classes are responsible for the nature murals that run hundreds of feet along Main Street east of the railway. But her real contribution is to the thousands of students she cared for and worked so hard to educate.

Born in San Francisco, Cheryl and her husband both graduated from U.C. at Berkeley and lived in Santa Maria from 1975 to 2003. Cheryl was a gifted artist in painting, ceramics and print-making. She would also delight students with stories of backpacking and bicycling, her children, and her numerous pets.

Cheryl retired in 2013 and succumbed last Friday to a year-long battle with cancer. Brave to the end, she died peacefully and pain-free at Marian Extended Care Center. She is survived by her husband Leonard of 44 years, her twin daughters Amanda and Candace, and her son Axel, all living on the Central Coast. When asked by her school superintendent Mr. Cora for a retirement message, her reply was, Live every day, love every moment.

Cheryls funeral service will be at 4:00 PM on Thursday, January 30th at Lady Family Mortuary, 555 Fair Oaks Avenue. in Arroyo Grande.
