Eleanor was the daughter of John Leonard. She is not the daughter of John and Abigail (Moody) Leonard. Abigail would have been about 53 years old at the time of Eleanor's birth. John and Abigail (Moody) did have a daughter Eleanor but she was born several years earlier (March 10, 1780)and she married Thomas Starbuck in 1804. It is possible this Eleanor may have been the granddaughter of John and Abigail (Moody) Leonard.

Eleanor was a Quaker. She was disowned for marrying Timothy Cude contrary to discipline.

Eleanor married Nathan Dicks prior to 1815 (Birth of first child Achilles September 3, 1815). They were the parents of nine children: Achilles W., Alfred M., Cornelius T., Elizabeth, Esther, Rachel, Mary L., Lydia, and Nathan. Nathan died in 1833. A John Leonard became the guardian of Eleanor's minor children at that time. By 1844, guardianship of the remaining minor children had passed to the elder son Cornelius. The oldest two sons, Achilles and Alfred, had migrated to Illinois. By 1846, guardianship of the remainding minor child, Lydia, was held by Charles S. Leonard.

Eleanor married second Timothy Cude on February 4, 1840 in Guilford Co., North Carolina. They had a daughter Martitia.

Her will leaves all her remaining possessions to her daughters. There is no mention of her sons.
