Born in Yarmouth, George married Sarah Adams in Redding CT in 1763. They had 11 known children, the first of whom were born in Massachusetts. The family's migration can be traced by the birthplaces of their later children, in Dorset Vermont, and finally Pittstown NY, where George died.

His widow remarried Timothy Munson, a widower and tavern keeper in Pownal VT. One of their grandchildren is named for him, Timothy Munson Gage.
