Melvin C. Wood, 73, of Ocala, was called home by his Heavenly Father on Friday March 4, 2016. He was born in Moultrie, GA to Arthur and Dollie Mae Wood in 1942. Melvin and his family moved to Bristol, Florida in 1945 where he lived until moving to Ocala in 1973. Melvin worked for the Marion County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator and would serve Marion County for 35 years before he would retire. Those who knew him would always find him outside working in his yard or eating at some of his favorite local restaurants. Those who knew him would also know about a life he spent in devotion to his faith in Jesus Christ and to his family. Melvin always showed a special love for his family, especially for his grandchildren. Melvin was married for 43 years and raised two sons. He is survived by his wife Diana Wood of Ocala; sons Kevin and Timothy Wood; grandchildren Lucas, Emily, Natalie and Andrew; brothers Glen and Eugene Wood and sisters Arthur Mae Phillips, Evelyn Saucer and Dorthy Ward. Visitation time is 5-7pm Wednesday, March 9 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services in Ocala, and one hour prior to services the next day. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, March 10, 2016.
