John served in the U.S. Military from 1976 to 1978. He served as a police officer in Glendale Heights, IL., and for about 17 years John served as a Public Safety Officer in Marina, CA. He also served briefly as the Chief of Police in Stanford, IL., before returning to California to work in private security for Ms. Doris Day in Carmel, CA.
John was inducted as a Knight Commander in the Knights of the Rose in 2004. He also served as Sergeant of Arms at the San Francisco, California Chapter.
John is survived by his son, John L. (Kayla) Mendenhall, Jr. , who is presently serving in the U.S. Military, his mother Lynne,; brothers Robert (Claire), Edward, and Steven., sisters Sandra (Dexter) Ithal, and Robyn Mendenhall; nephews Matthew, Robert, Eric, and Thomas; nieces; Kara, Kristy, Alexis and Jessica.
John will always be remembered for his kind, gentle spirit, and the best friend anyone could ever hope to have.
