Mr. George W. Goree, 67, of Montrose, died Sunday, September 24, 2006 at the Baptist Medical Health Center in Little Rock. Mr. Goree was a native of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; a resident of Montrose for the past nine years and a former resident of Osceola, Keiser, Springdale and Bearden. He was an educator and principal for 34 years and a veteran of the United States Army. He was an active member of the Montrose United Methodist Church where he served on the board of Trustees. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Portland Masonic Lodge # 499 where he served as Worshipful Master and in other offices until his health failed. He was preceded in death by his father, Julius Goree, his mother, Thelma McNett Horner and his step-father, Charles Horner. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara Gibson Goree of Montrose; a son, George (Chip) Goree II and wife, Jennifer, of Bryant, AR; a daughter, Kayla Lewis and husband, David, of Monticello; a brother, Charles Horner, Jr.; a sister, Madalyn Cox and husband, LeRoy, of Baton Rouge, LA; and three grandchildren, David Goree, Bailey Goree and Donovan Stucks. Funeral services are 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at the Montrose United Methodist Church with Rev. Todd-Paul Taulbee and Rev. Larry Donaldson officiating. Burial will be in Pinewood Memorial Park Cemetery with Masonic Honors. Pallbearers are the members of the Portland, Hamburg and Crossett Masonic Lodges. Honorary pallbearer is Johnny Lynn. Memorials may be made to the Portland Masonic Lodge or to the Montrose United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Harvetta Bradney, PO Box 324, Montrose, AR 71658. Visittion will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
