US Congressman. Born in Hopewell, Virginia, he was educated at Fork Union Military Academy and George Washington University, Washington, D.C. During World War II, he served in Europe, as a Captain in the 106th Infantry Division, United States Army. After the war, he engaged in the building business in the firm of M.T. Broyhill & Sons, was president of the Arlington County Chamber of Commerce and as chairman of the Virginia Arlington County, Planning Commission. In 1953, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-third Congress and to the next ten succeeding Congresses, serving until his resignation in 1974. After leaving office, he was involved with a firm which developed several neighborhoods in Northern Virginia, until his death at age 86 in Arlington, Virginia.
