Martha Ruth Dowdy Fowler, age 92, went home to Heaven, on Friday, March 4, 2016 at St. Vincent's Southside. She was born in Cordele, Georgia on March 30, 1923 to Pat and Lillie Mae (Butterworth) Dowdy.

She married the love of her life, Willis H. "Bill" Fowler, in Cordele on February 3, 1940 and recently celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Fowler was devoted to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, her large family, and her church. She had the gift of hospitality and her greatest joy was being in her kitchen preparing wonderful meals and delicious desserts for those she loved. She especially enjoyed serving as church hostess at Terry Road Baptist Church for nearly three decades.

She was a consummate mother and homemaker with an exceptional talent in quilting and sewing. She was good with plants, be it flowers or vegetable gardening, and had a passion for fishing. She loved people and doing for others. Her sweet smile and kind heart touched many throughout her life. For the past four years, she has been an active member of the McKinney "Love" Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Fowler is survived by four sons, Willis Fowler (Diane), Pat Fowler of Jacksonville, Ron Fowler (Gail) of MacClenny, and Donald Fowler (Eileen) of Athens, Georgia; two daughters, Donna Murray (Randy), Alisa Scheuer (Gary) of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Nell Mangham; and brother, Dalton (Claire) Dowdy, both of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by her brother, Adrian Dowdy; sisters, Juanita Kleckley, and Seleda Chuba.

The family will receive friends from five o'clock until seven o'clock in the evening on Monday, March 7, 2016 at The Oaklawn Chapel. A funeral service celebrating Mrs. Fowler's life will be held at eleven o'clock in the morning on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the Hobson Auditorium of First Baptist Church Jacksonville with a viewing one hour prior. Interment in Sandy Mount Cemetery, Cordele Georgia on Wednesday. HARDAGE-GIDDENS, THE OAKLAWN CHAPEL, 4801 San Jose Blvd is serving the family.
