Sidney Gleaves Ryan, 91, a lifelong Memphian, died March 1, 2016. He was a 1943 graduate of Humes High School. He served with the United States Marine Corps, Fifth Division, 28th Regiment, from 1943-1946, surviving the entire Battle of Iwo Jima and participated in the occupation of Japan. He retired from Texaco after 33 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dease H. and Veyden Bailey Ryan and 4 brothers. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Daisy Vance Ryan; daughters Frances Ryan and Laura Ryan; sons Kelly Ryan (Missy) and George Ryan; and 4 grandchildren. Visitation will be 5:30-7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 3rd at Canale Funeral Directors, 2700 Union Avenue Ext. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 4th at Elmwood Cemetery.
