Douglas M. Duncan, "Dyno," age 69, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016, surrounded by his family.
Doug was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on December 24, 1946, to the late William M. Duncan, Jr., and Susan Douglas McClellen. After graduating from Butler High School in 1964, Doug worked until he was drafted by the United States Army in 1966. He spent most of his time in the military as a tank gunner, and he served proudly until 1968. Doug began his career as a railroad engineer for Norfolk Southern Railroad in 1969, where he fostered many friendships and built a solid reputation as one of their finest engineers until his retirement in 2006.
Doug is survived by his wife of 22 years, Linda Duncan; his daughters Michele Metcalfe (Thomas) and Tara McCarty (Benjamin); stepson Scott Dalton (Shelley); stepdaughter Amy Dane (Ryan); sister Deborah Duncan; nephew Stephen Duncan; grandchildren Zackery, Molly, Gavin, Tucker, Reese, Nola, Shyla, Adelaide, and Rafe; one aunt; several cousins; and a large number of friends.
Doug will be fondly remembered for his love of simple things in life: fixing up cars, driving his motorcycle and his hot rod, playing golf with his friends, watching UK basketball, listening to blues music, watching movies, dancing, and most of all, telling (and retelling) stories. He found great joy in spending time with his family. He was loved deeply and will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.
His funeral service will be at 1 pm on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery.
