Darrell William "Bill" Powell, 79, of Valdese, went to his Heavenly Home on Thursday March 3, 2016 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Valdese, after a period of declining health.

Mr. Powell was born February 7, 1937 in Burke County, a son of the late Jessie James and Edith Lail Powell.

He retired from the Ford Motor Company as a tool and dye maker. Bill served his country as a member of the National Guard and Reserves and was a faithful member of Solid Rock Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Elbert Powell and Bernard Powell.

Surviving are his wife, Leeuna Nichols Powell of the home, two sons, Billy Ray Powell of Phoenix, AZ, Darrell Lee Powell of Valdese and a daughter, Robin McGee and husband Dean of Valdese. Also surviving are his brother, Harold Powell of Greensboro, a sister, Edith Marie Moores of Portland, MA. eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Darrell W. "Bill" Powell will be held Sunday March 6, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Solid Rock Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Burke Memorial Park with military honors by the National Guard.
