Marion Earl Bailey passed away at Hollander Senior Living Residence on March 2, 2016 at the age of 88. Earl was born in Miller County, GA in 1928 and is the son of the late Bertha and Presley Bailey. He graduated from Miller County High School in 1945 and served in the Marines from 1945 – 1948. He went on to earn degrees in Education from University of Georgia, Peabody, and Florida State. He worked as a Teacher, School Principal, and Superintendent of Schools. Earl is predeceased by his sisters, Annie Lou Wells, Florine Shippey, Caroline Ward and brothers Issac Andrew Bailey, Byron Preston Bailey, Robert Ralph Bailey, Elton Alex Bailey, and Clarence Roscoe Bailey.

Earl is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marguerite Hand Bailey. They were married in Hazelhurst, Georgia on June 10, 1951. Earl is lovingly remembered by his children Stan Bailey (Jayne) of Athens, GA, Victor Bailey of Grey, GA, Emily Bailey of Bogart, GA, Gwen Bailey (David Radcliffe) of Athens, GA, and David Bailey (Kim) of Warner Robins, GA, and grandchildren Sarah Sirzyk (David), Elliott Radcliffe, Trina Doughty (Phillip) Marcus Bailey, Keith Bailey, Monica Bailey, and Mary Bailey and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Earl loved fishing, gardening, good western movies and books, and 'rooting for the Georgia Bulldogs'. He was a faithful member of Mars Hill Baptist Church and the Golden Boys Sunday School Class. The visitation will be held at Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, GA from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5th with the Funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs of Hollander and Compassionate Care Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mars Hill Baptist Church Transportation Fund, 2661 Mars Hill Rd., Watkinsville, GA 30677. Bernstein Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
