He was a longtime member of Antioch AME Church. He was choir leader and designated as Steward Emeritus and Trustee Emeritus for his faithful and dedicated service over the years.
He was retired from Excelsior Mills and was self-employed as a brick mason. He was a US Army veteran having served in the Korean War. He was a member of Widows Son Masonic Lodge #34.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Willie Leroy Hardy; one grandson, Cornelius Cornwell; one granddaughter, Maleikka Hardy Williams; and one sister, Betty Hardy Robinson.
Survivors include three sons, Arthur Jerome "Roach" Hardy of Charlotte, NC, Jesse James Hardy, Jr. of Union, SC, and Michael Eugene (Linda) Hardy of the home; one daughter, Jacqueline Hardy Fleming of Union, SC; one brother, Willie Hardy, Jr. of Clayton, OH; a daughter -in-law, Valerie Carter Hardy; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
