Andy was the son of Aultman whatley and Lyda Melton Whatley. He grew up in Americus and had been excepted into the Marines and was waiting to be called for training when he was shot and killed in a drive by shooting on the streets of Americus one night after he got off work at the drive in movie. He had innocently stopped to talk to some friends before he went home, where he lived with his mother. He died at Phoebe Putney Memorial hospital after arrival there.
