Mrs. Lavina H. Vander Werff, daughter of Anthony G. and Pauline Ver Ploeg Klein, was born May 23, 1914, at Pella, Iowa, and passed away Friday, September 12, 1958, at the University Hospital at Iowa City where she was confined but a short time.
Mrs. Vander Werff was a graduate of Pella Public High School and taught in rural schools in the Pella community.
On October 9, 1940, she was united in marriage to Alfred Vander Werff and the couple engaged in farming at their present home site.
Those left to mourn her passing are her husband; two sons; one brother, Henry Klein of Pella; three sisters, (Lucille) Mrs. Jake De Ronde of Pella, (Almira) Mrs. C. G. Reynen of Grand Rapids, Mich., and (Esther) Mrs. Virgil Boot of Sully; also a number of nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
On April 7, 1930, by her confession of faith she placed her membership with the First Reformed Church of Pella, later transferring to the Third Reformed where she was active in the Mary and Martha Society.
Prayer services were held Monday, September 15, 1958, at 1 p.m. at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home, prior to the memorial services at 1:30 from the Third Reformed Church, the Rev. Wilbur Ringnalda and the Rev. Dr. Gerrit Menning officiating. Interment was made in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Two selections were rendered by Mrs. Robert Roorda and Mrs. Arnold De Bruin, "Sweet Bye and Bye" and "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied by Mrs. Jake Monster.
Serving as casket bearers were: Jerry Vanden Berg, Francis Van Zante, Howard Dearinger, Simon Fopma, John Klyn, and Leonard Duinink.
